play-time

Photobucket

Join the dolls to fragments of play-time, a section of existence with diminishing lines that lay between acceptable norms of realism and unexplored territories. Dolls that are unlike dolls bask under upside-down rainbows, pink rain and illogical spaces. Questions were not asked, for the moment has consumed them.

Our illusion of continuity is based on choppy fragments. Let us bask under them with no questions asked.

My Art Space Exhibtion.

Photobucket
Photobucket

Art is anything we want it to be. It can be found in a motionless soiled pebble or a glorious painting glistening with perfection. It is art once we consider or feel it to be, and it is precisely this freedom that pulls me into painting. In art, I am (almost) free. It seems to be the only excusable word left to go beyond barriers in a barbed ‘human reality’. I allow myself to search for the ultimate within the ironies of the infinite unknown. With a satchel of materials, I set out on a journey without ends or beginnings. An unreachable goal undoubtedly gives birth to frustrations, but the journey also promises a shovel on the way to unclog blocked arteries and liberate one from oneself.

2-way void I, II & III

Photobucket
Our essence is tied without origin- an unwelcome reminder of the rootless-ness that annihilates our meanings into dust. We build grandiose towers of purposes and meanings, shutting our eyes tight to our bottomless pits.

Towers without bases are bound to fall.
Towers without light cannot be found.

We close our eyes and lay our bricks in sunny dreams

The illusion of togetherness.
Photobucket
An instinctive search for ‘others’ behind a veil of silent desperation for need of unity, so as to feel a more rounded wholeness in our perceived beings. It takes one to verify another’s existence in all its solidity, but unfortunately- not in their entire truth. We continue to seek others around us as consolations even though we are unable to understand them for what it is- they are simply the reflections of our own muted consciousness.

We are essentially alone.

Up, up, into nothingness.
Photobucket
Hope- it waits in anticipation for a better future, for great heights and impending happiness. It motivates our senses and actions, and all that is needed is the unfettering belief of hope. These make-believe clock-ticking seconds have given us an excuse to believe in tomorrows and Sundays.

We have only the now, but the ‘now’ a moment ago had just been lost as you are reading this. Yet, it keeps on unfolding persistently into our moments like butterflies we find impossible to trap in nets. The future will never come, and thus the impossibility of hope.

Hope is but an imaginary ladder.

words through association (notes)

Photobucket Photobucket

Photobucket Photobucket

words through associations.

- object-word relationship
- conditioning of words

A jeopardy of mindset (from previous conditioning). Re-considering the relationship between objects and words (which are sub-consciously rooted in the tradition of pure sensory-perception).

the essence of things.

What makes an apple an apple? An apple is essentially not an apple. It is a fallacy to conclude the essence of the apple at face-value. If by any chance an particular apple occupies a 'real and solid' existence, one will come to realize that the external foundation of the apple is not an illusion, but a component of the essence- yet not the essence itself, since for the essence to reveal itself demands a totality of all components.

However, words have so fully integrated into humanity- so much so that it created a delusion of possessing total control over objects, and that we relate to their subjective essence without fallacy. Indeed, it proves great & intense difficulty in separating an external label from the essence of things.

Fragmented perceptions.

Take an object for instance- a chair. One looks at it and perceives it to be a chair. However, it is impossible to take in even the external structure of the chair in its totality. One can take in fragmented views of the chair, perhaps even move around it in attempt to take in a more wholesome view. However, due to physiological limitations, it is not even remotely possible to take all of it 'external reality' in all its glory.

When we look at a part of the chair, our previous memories and knowledge fills up the gaps of what we missed or are unable to see. Thus, there exist huge gaps of 'lack' in our perceptions which are filled in with 'presumptions' and 'made-up' details- somewhat like brain-grease to maintain a 'smooth' brain-functioning.

the relations and interactions of things.

Relations of Things.

If the world is pure consciousness, then it must permeate through every inch of space that which is infinity. Then what are objects? If objects (which includes humans), are consciousness given form, what is this mass that makes form possible? Let’s make this presumption- which I trust has a high degree of scientific truth, that mass is a constant entity. If we were to say that one’s consciousness still remains in existence even when the body stops functioning, the same can be said about the body- which is mass disintegrated into another form of mass which only differs in appearance.

Consciousness withstands only itself, supports only itself. So just what exactly is the role of mass? It seems to be a superfluous entity – the universe has no need for human, flower, granite forms to sustain itself. Is mass simply an excess or …?

To establish the idea of an object as consciousness given form, one can no longer distinguish the difference between a stone and a fish. Everything seems to be connected in a single fundamental truth, and that the complexity of each object will cease to hold any relevance since it will eventually negate back to the same point.

Interaction of Things.

We pretend to create meanings to things that in actual fact, are meaningless. To further convince ourselves, we attempt to make up our own subjective meanings by making certain objects interact with another. A water hose is meaningful because water flows out from it, and that one no longer needs to draw water from inconvenient sources. However, in reality, a water hose is meaningless. It is the useful interaction between the hose and water that gives the water hose a purpose.

Read the word as follows:

SNAKE

We can easily through reflex, create a mental image of a snake, for we have being taught what a snake is. But in reality, this 5 letters are only a mass of electronic impulses that form the black lettering image on the screen.

Meanings are simply meaningless invention that has no relation to the truth. It is dangerous because it leads us even further from reality, though it provides one with a great deal of consolation.

Now look at this word as follows:

ENKAS

Is the meaning as significant as the previous word? I had used the same amount of electronic impulses to deliver these 5 letters. However, it seems takes up a new meaning on its own, even though we may not be able to truly understand its ‘not-yet-invented’ meaning. Is this what we call creation? If creation is to bring something new or original to the world, then is creation possible? The most one can do is to either change the order of Things, or to reveal what one sees.

TRF 4th annual exhibition "Transition" 2007 @Pan Pacific

Photobucket

Dolls. Inanimate structures with black glass eyes staring out into nothingness. Yet they invoke in me a wide spectrum of feelings. Nostalgia, innocence, tranquility and companionship- yet sometimes it leaves one cold. In this series, new air fills their hollow bodies for the first time and they come to life. These seemingly perfect beings take on human qualities and have fallen into the worldly vortex of intimidation, and a merry-go-round of dull consciousness.
